Profile:
A long-held interest in Japanese art and culture led me to discover origami on my first trip to Jan in 2003. I was inspired by the beautiful and intricate textiles, jewellery and papercraft I saw there. It was a great influence on my work during my degree in Illustration and Animation at Kingston University. After graduating in 2007 I branched out into 3D work and began making origami jewellery.
Although I use quite traditional origami shapes such as the crane and the lily, I use a wide variety of materials; from classic Japanese 'washi' paper to recycled gift wrap and craft papers, and a myriad of colourful beads in glass, metal and resin. The paper is coated in a special varnish to make it more durable and water resistant. I love experimenting with different shapes, sizes, colours and textures, so that every piece is unique.
