Profile: I trained as a painter/sculptor/printmaker at Northampton, Leicester and Chelsea art schools and later completed a Fine Art Valuation Course at Southampton. I taught art and design to all age ranges in a variety of schools and colleges mainly in England for 30 years during which time I exhibited widely showing paintings and prints in very small and much larger venues, with both solo and shared exhibitions. I have work in collections in Great Britain, Europe, North America and New Zealand. Towards the end of my teaching career the work load made it impossible to keep up with the exhibition circuit and I lost contact with galleries.
I paint in watercolour, mixed media and acrylic. Subject matter ranges through local and not so local architecture, gardens and views, landscapes, seascapes and flora and fauna in various forms. I am fascinated by light, pattern, texture and the effects of growth and decay in the natural world.
I have had work accepted by the Royal Academy, and in 2009 exhibited in four of Northamptonshire's most prestigious shows: The South Northants Selected Open Exhibition at the Heseltine Gallery; Sulgrave Manor where my work was show cased on the About Anglia television programme; Lamport Hall; and the Art Gallery & Museum, Guildhall Road, Northampton with the Northampton Town and County Art Society of which I have been an elected Member since 1976. I will be involved with the Open Studios Exhibitions in September 2009 as well as with the Heseltine Gallery and the Northampton Town and County Art Society.
I started to make jewellery when I was an art teacher to raise money for the school association. When I retired from teaching I still had some bits and pieces so I am keeping on with making jewellery. My jewellery is made from good quality gilt metal; silver plated or stainless steel findings and glass, ceramic or wood beads - although there are exceptions to the norm. As well as earring I make bracelets and necklaces. I have a selection of earrings, bracelets and necklaces made from silver findings, semi-precious stones combined with all sorts of interesting finds. Silver-smithing is quite similar to etching at times and I am now enjoying transferring some of my landscape images to silver.
